Scaling UX: Visual Design Makes for Great UX

When looking at a visual, we can usually instantly say whether it is attractive or mistaken. However, few can express why design is visually appealing. Graphics that take help of the principles of good visual design can make engagement and enhance usability.
Visual-design principles tell us how design elements such as line, shape, colour, grid, or space go collectively to create well-rounded and thoughtful visuals.

With the understanding that there is no one “absolutely magnificent” visual, we can now dig into the role of visual design in UX. After all, it is far more than just making things pretty. For UX designers, there are two main points. Firstly, never depend on visual design only to prevent a bad experience. The most appealing visuals will not fix features or functionality. Second, do not overlook visual design! We all have competition, and visual design can be the planned that promotes users to benefit one application over another that is similarly functional.

Stay Consistent

Inconsistency will turn even the most magnificent design into an ugly mess. This is one area where feeling leads vision; if a user is confused by the site, that feeling will make a site appear ugly in their eyes.

Test visual concepts as well as paper prototypes.

As Jerry tells us on Creative Bloq, “when people are online, they say they’re “looking” at a website, not “interacting” with one, even though the final is more accurate.” We act strongly to visuals, and branding done well can influence how much we trust and respond to interactions.

Simplicity is the key

There is a reason the little black dress has lived in fashion over the past 100 years. It is straightforward. It is classic. It is timeless. Equally, a simple, clean, classic visual design will keep up over time, in a way that trends can not guarantee. While it is likely that some aspects of flat design will remain (for example), on the whole, it’s likely to leave a lot of apps looking “so 2015” in a few years.

Provoke emotion and delight.

Beautiful things provoke positive emotions. In fact, the aesthetic–usability effect tells that when people find a design visually appealing, they may be more forgiving of minor usability mishaps. By following the standards of good visual designs, designers can build UIs that look good and thus make users feel good.

Strengthen brand perception.

A strong visual system builds user trust and interest in the product and appropriately represents and reinforces the brand.

Conclusion

When users enter a website, it takes only a few seconds for them to make a first impression and that first impression is based on what they see. Of course, when they start interacting with a product, they will evaluate it from all different sides. Investing time and effort into the visual design will help create a great first impression with your users/visitors.
