“Facebook was not created to be a company. It was built to accomplish a social mission — to make the world more open and connected” says Mark Zuckerberg.

Years ago, despite various options available, Facebook ruled the domain of social networking sites. It was particularly popular once, every one of us had accounts over there. Imagine you sitting at one corner of the world and knowing the latest chats and updates about the other. Soon it started becoming a business networking platform too. The number of users terrifically increased.

In April 2012, the instant hit Instagram was launched. It didn’t take many efforts to get on top, it had hype. Facebook got the biggest competitor, shortly the audience started shifting to Instagram. But do you think Facebook can ever go out of the market? Through the years, it has made so many changes to its design to please the user experience. Facebook launched the messenger in 2011. Since the idea was a huge success and most target audiences found the messaging feature beneficial, Facebook tried to upgrade its user’s experiences by launching an application especially covering the chatting element of the site.

Here is how after years of upgrading with technology and its dynamic evolving, Facebook Messenger is still fighting to be in trend, UX Case Study.

FACEBOOK MESSENGER UI/UX REVIEW

Mark Zuckerberg says, “Think about what people are doing on Facebook today. They’re keeping up with their friends and family, but they’re also building an image and identity for themselves, which in a sense is their brand. They’re connecting with the audience that they want to connect to. It’s almost a disadvantage if you’re not on it now.”

Is Facebook Messenger growing with time? How has its change been until yet? Let us have a study.

  • On Facebook messenger, you cannot preview or cancel a voice message before sending it. When you send a voice message on Facebook, once you let go of the record button, your message is sent.

• Having Snapchat as one of the biggest competitors, Facebook had to come with something giving a tough fight to the huge feature of Snapchat that is chats that disappear once seen. Facebook allowed sending messages that only last for a moment. Select in to use vanish mode where seen messages disappear after you exit the chat.

• Lost for words? You can customize your reactions, with lots more emojis to choose from. Network sites are more about entertainment. Facebook included reacting to each particular message in a specific way to enhance the engagement and fun for its users.

• The current Pandemic has led to virtual being a new reality, Facebook has introduced Creating Room feature. Send a link to group video chat with anyone, even if they don’t have Messenger. Host up to 50 people with no time limits. Watch videos, tv shows, and movies with your friends over Messenger Video Chat and Rooms when you can’t be together. Capture every moment and reaction in real-time.

  • Facebook helps you to keep your friends and family close with unlimited live video chatting. Host group video calls with up to 8 people, with high-quality audio, high-definition video, and interactive video features like face filters.
  • Coming to the interface, Facebook has worked well with the concepts of UI in messenger earlier, it was easily accessible, neat, and clean, it could be understood and simply navigated. The color used, white and blue exhibit a friendly vibe and positive energy which goes with the concept of designing a networking application. But with time, it is said and experienced that the interface has drastically degraded making the application cluttered and experience difficult.

WRAP UP

Facebook Messenger has got a tough match for some years now. It has tried to change its features focusing on privacy concerns and user trends, but if only they get out of the approach of battle and focus on what their user needs and why they still are with the application, it can compete with other networking platforms and keep its loyal consumers while giving them a good user experience.
